Three devices, one platform, one open ecosystem.

Gateway 2, Gateway Touch, SmartCable. Different form factors, different deployment patterns — same architectural foundation underneath all three.

One connector ecosystem · One security posture · One open-standards output · One customer-ownership model

// What's the same across all three

The line is the platform.

A buyer choosing between Gateway 2 / Touch / SmartCable isn’t choosing between different platforms — they’re choosing the right device form factor for their specific deployment.

  • Connector ecosystem. The same Synefex-signed connectors run across all three. A connector developed for Gateway 2 is the same connector that runs on Touch or speaks through SmartCable.
  • Security posture. Signed firmware, signed connectors, hardware-TPM based security.
  • Open standards-based output. LADS / SiLA 2 / ASM / AnIML — the same data flows out of all three (SmartCable via its upstream host).
  • Customer ownership model. You buy — you own. Security patches are always free. Optional maintenance covers feature updates. (See No Lock-in Page.)

// Where the three differ

Form factor, audit-trail mechanics, and when buyers pick which.

DeviceForm factorAudit trail READINESSWhen to pick this
Gateway 2Benchtop, headlessOver APIMulti-instrument lab deployments. Robotic systems needing to communicate with multiple instruments. No on-device display required.
Gateway TouchBenchtop with multi-touch displayOn-Display, Over APIOn-device workflow building. Direct ELN/LIMS interaction at the bench. Smart-card / RFID authentication. Mobile / cart-based setups.
SmartCableCable form factorVia upstream host (no local trail storage)Single-instrument retrofit. Fastest rollout — true plug-and-play. License travels with the cable; fleet expansion only needs more cables. Needs a Gateway or a PC

All three share the same connector ecosystem, architecture, and security model. The choice is form factor and deployment pattern.

// Buying

What's included out of the box.

A Gateway includes:

  • Gateway hardware (Gateway 2 or Gateway Touch)
  • Power supply (included)
  • One bundled connector license — for up to 4 / 6 devices of the same type. Additional connectors purchased per type
  • One USB or RS-232 cable
  • Optional: maintenance contract per device — covers ongoing feature and connector updates.
  • Security patches always ship free regardless of maintenance status.

For single-instrument retrofits where a full gateway isn’t warranted, SmartCable is sold per instrument, with the connector license bundled with the cable itself.

// OEM

Available as OEM components.

All three devices are also available as OEM components for lab device manufacturers integrating Synefex hardware into their own products. See the OEM page →
